Club History

A brief history of the Camberley Rifle & Pistol Club shows a long establishment of the Sports Facility in Camberley and, since the formation of the Club in 1903, some considerable sporting achievements.

Throughout the long years many Club members have made significant sporting achievements such as:-

A Member who won the Kings Prize in 1912, 1926 and 1931.

The first Lady to win the Kings Prize at Bisley. This achievement was only equaled over 60 years later in 2000.

• A World service Revolver Champion.
• A Grand Aggregate Winner at Bisley.
• A Captain of the Olympic Running Boar Rifle Team.
• Two Members of the English Pistol Team.
• A Member of the Welsh Pistol Team
• A Member of the Great Britain Three Positional Rifle Team.
• A Disabled Lady who won Four Olympic Gold Medals for Air Rifle.

A Member who won the Great Britain Junior Air Rifle Championship and has defended his title three times to remain the current Great Britain Champion.

Two Junior Ladies who came second and third in the Great Britain Air Rifle Championships. Both are currently members of the Great Britain Junior Shooting Squad.

Two Junior Men are currently members of the Junior Great Britain Shooting Squad and have taken part in overseas tours shooting at International Level.

Members of the Club have visited Bietigheim to compete against the German Town teams and return visits were made by the German teams to Camberley.

Every year the Club puts forward two Teams to shoot in the Surrey County Leagues and simultaneously most members shoot in the Individual League Competitions. The success of the Teams and Individual Members in these Competitions is shown by the number of Gold and Silver Medals won.
